What is Dyslexia?
Dyslexia is a reading-related learning disability that impacts individuals' reading ability, causing difficulties in reading fluently and accurately. Additionally, individuals with dyslexia may struggle with reading comprehension, spelling, and writing. It is important to note that these challenges do not reflect on one's intelligence.
This common condition presents obstacles in working with language, affecting an estimated 5 to 10 percent of the population according to some experts, while others suggest as many as 17 percent may exhibit signs of reading difficulties. Dyslexia is not something individuals naturally outgrow, but with specific teaching methods and strategies, they can enhance their reading skills and cope with these challenges effectively. Testing for dyslexia is available for individuals of all ages, although the assessment process varies for children and adults.
